edger review August 2, 2009 Dr. John C. Hyde II 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
After unpacking, the assembly was very easy and fast. The performance is outstanding and this product is the best I have ever had. I will look at this unit for replacement. Bottomline: it now takes less than 20 minutes as opposed to over an hour with my previous edger- an attachment for a line string trimmer.
Great grass edger July 10, 2009 P. Joyce (Oklahoma) 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
The McLain trimmer is so much better than the very best Sears ones. If more people knew this, Sears would start buying from McLane instead of from China or wherever; or they would discontinue the product. This is one great reason to buy American products.
Love My McLane Edger August 8, 2009 S. Grant (North Florida, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
We love our McLane edger. The entire purchase process was wonderful. The product was delivered as promised and, after slight assembly, worked as advertised. Having used McLane products 20 years ago, we were pleased to see the product quality had not diminished through the years.
Best Grass Edger January 6, 2010 John H. Vanderkam 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This edger for $299.99 including shipping is the best that I could find for the money. It was very easy to assemble and started on the second pull. It is very easy to use. I have a bad back and the walk behind type of edger is about all that I can use on our 400 foot drive. The engineering on the Mclane 101 edger is vastly superior to the similar looking Sears model that I just got rid of. The lower mounting position of the motor and the quality of construction have a lot of influence on the balance and ease of handling. The plastic wheels must have a better quality of ball bearings because you can roll this edger on the concrete drive with 2 fingers rather than the 2 hands and considerable effort that are required to keep the Sears edger moving in the correct direction. I have only 2 suggestions for the manufacturer. Place a small amount of grease on the throttle assembly at the carburetor to eliminate jamming of the throttle control and do not ship via Fed-X to reduce damage.
Good Decision July 24, 2009 Gary Bauer (Coastal North Carolina) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have used a string trimmer add on for edging in the past and found it clumsy to handle. I looked long and hard at dedicated edgers but wondered if the price difference is worth it. It is. The McLane trimmer is easy to manipulate and is well built. I'm sure I will get many seasons use. It is metal where others are plastic and is well balanced. I'm not sure how to use the trimming feature as the guard covers the blade parallel to the wheels when in trim mode.
